I bought a big generator just for this reason. It's rare to lose power up here, but it does happen. I plan to get a transfer switch and outlet intalled this spring so I can just keep it hooked up and power my house at such times.

I see global warming everywhere in that pic. With global warming comes stronger storms more frequent storms in some places, while others enter drought.
