Over the winter I noticed one of our potatoes was sprouting eyes and recalled that as a child I'd cut one in half, placed it in water and it had grown, so I did the same with this one. It's been growing well and this morning I noticed one of the flowers had opened...I never realized before how pretty they are
Our compost bin is trying to grow potatoes again. Sometimes when we are feeling lazy and have some that are too old to eat they get dumped in the compost bin without cutting them up first. We then seem to get them growing in the spring... but never let them get far enough to see the flowers.
You could have told me it was an orchid,a NOID, and I'd have thought it was remarkable!
I know, me too! I was really amazed by how lovely it's blossoms are
I haven't really thought past "cut potato and stick in water to see what happens", but I could plant it in the ground somewhere once the threat of frost has passed. It will continue to amuse me to watch and see what happens.
