Amaryllis - Apple Blossom
I started a new topic, well because these are no longer seedlings. I did grow these from seed - a selfing ( see topic Amaryllis Seedlings ) and these are into their 3-4th year already.
Some look like they may bloom in the next few months.
Each year I think I will lose a couple in Winter storage - nope, none yet. What they seem to do in my basement is produce offsets ! For storage, I spray the bulbs with a little lysol and wrap them individually with newspaper...and then its hibernation time for a few months.
Photos show a tray of bulbs ready to be planted, and the bed they will be planted in once its cleaned up. The 2 mature amaryllis are a red ( on the left ) and the mother amaryllis, with a couple of offsets. The mother had 4 spikes for me in Winter, an amazing show.( 3rd photo )

Great success, I'm surprised how quickly they get to a decent size.

Seems that outdoors they are growing much faster than potted. Great success.

almost 2 months in the garden - south-facing. I have planted gem squash ( a South African squash ) amongst the plants to provide some shade in the much hotter months ahead.
Interestingly - I have a number of blooms - almost all of which look exactly like the parent Apple Blossom. However one ( so far ) is definitely more orangey-red. I like it. There has been some discussion about selfings and subsequent progeny; remember these are progeny of a selfing using the same flower. Most look like the parent. Only the odd one or two so far are noticeably different. Note the much shorter spikes compared to ones grown exclusively indoors.
this one is the 'different' one.
