What Plant? Male
Default What Plant?

My dad got this plant for a week from a local shop, who were unable to identify this plant. They however, instructed that this plant be kept in peat moss and similiar platform rather than soil. They also instructed that NPK fertilizer be used to feed it. Can anyone identify this plant?

azalea unamiously
if its an Asian azalea it will not have any fragrance and is also an evergreen plant. Very hardy and cold tolerant.
slow growers, like it cool, partial shade, such as the filtered light of tall trees, and an acidic, well-draining soil. shallow roots cant take too much excess of water. They bloom on old wood, so pruning should be done after flowering in late spring so that you don’t remove buds being formed for next year’s flowers.
I planted some of these last year and they stayed in bloom for months and months. No fragrance but the foliage really looks good all year long. With fragrant azaleas they are stringy taller growing plants that get out of shape fast. This one should stay small.

good luck!!!

No one for gardenia? Though gardenias are usually all white.

Gardenias are very fragrant. Any smell?

Most azeleas have fewer (5) petal/sepals, long filament and a very long stigma.

Just throwing another out there. I can't tell from the pics.

found a pic of one of my asian hybrids..these stay in bloom a very long time. no fragrance. They say the fragrance got lost in all the hybridizing. We have heard the same about orchids.

these have nicknames also just like orchids. wonderful little blooming plants. I going to have to dig mine up and move it. planted in bark mulch it is

I don't like my gardenias as much as these. the gardenias so close to the house really can make you ill the fragrance gets so strong. They might get dug up also.

I'm sticking with azalea, too much pink in the flower for a gardenia. (as was said they are all white)
