Stapelia gigantea (not an orchid) but a smelly thing found in the dry area of southern Africa.

I can live with the smell but not all the flies that they attacked, I cut the flower buts off in the winter so I don't have that smell in the house. But they are one cool looking plant.

heh the smell is of the rotted meat variety...I had one long ago and the smell wasn't as noticeable as the swarm of flies it attracted...

How very cool! I would love to have one but my spouse has said 'no' to any plants with an unpleasant odor. Of course, maybe I could put it next to a couple of jasmines and he would never find out....

The odour is not too over powering so you maybe able to get away with it, with out his knowledge. The only problem would be the fly's.

The flies might be a tell-tale sign. :|
