I thought dyed phals were bad enough -
- now we have PAINTED anthuriums! This is not a joke - I was in a Home Depot, and some odd-coloured anthuriums caught my eye. They were pale yellow and sky blue, and I didn't think anthuriums came in those colours.
Then I looked closely at one of the older flowers, and noticed spots without colour on it. Sure enough, it was greenish white underneath the blue colour (with a pink tip, no less - probably airbrushed).
So now we have these semi-artificial plants - I wonder what's next in line for hideous abuse.

Ugh... I wonder if these are just the "cull" plants that should have been composted, until somebody decided that they could just dye them, jack up the price and sell them as an "oddity"

This must be the reason! I can't imagine green anthurium flowers to be big sellers, so I guess this is how they get 'enhanced'. What's worse, they're probably selling.

I seriously don't mind dyed or painted flowers but that color choice is rather hideous. Sometimes, for gifts around the holidays, the painted and dyed plants can be fun to give. But, really, not that. Yuck.
The sad thing is, the red ones are so perfect for the holiday season...why not just sell those?

Why don't people just buy plastic plants?

Because I don't think they make plastic ones that look that bad.

IMO, it ranks right up there w/those ridiculous spray painted cacti. UGH! Definitely not something I'd buy but there must be a market for them because I see them everywhere.

Put me down on the list of people who are not fans of this sort of thing. I could accept some of the reasoning for doing it, were it not for the fact that it always seems like they choose the most hideous and tacky colors for the dyes and paints.
