That type scenerio happened with me when my youngest son was 20. I smelled alcohol on his breath after driving home one night (we live 18 miles out of town). I took his keys/car away from him for 3 months. He was a hurting puppy, I'll tell you. He had specific orders not to drive if he planned to drink (he wasn't of age, but I knew he would experiment...I wasn't naive about it).
Anyway, the only rule I gave him was to call me for a ride home or to stay where he was overnight, but never drink and drive.
After 3 months home with me and me driving him to work, movies, etc.....he never did that again. He still doesn't do that and he lives in another town and is 25 now. Something sunk in.
That Mom did the right thing to really put her foot down. So much better than the tragic alternative. kiki
