Default The " I didnt know that" thread

everyday you learn something or should anyway

I didnt know that the actress Sally Field that her family came over on the mayflower. William Bradford is her umpteenth grandfather. Who also by the way in the famous painting The 1st Thanksgiving portrayed him feasting with the indians. Amazing!!!

I didnt know that the the famous mountain climber George Mallory lost his life climbing Mt Everest was found 75 years later. He still lays there to this day in the very spot he landed in 1924. You can go see him right now if you can climb the north face where mallory himself was quoted as saying .."a simple slip is death" Amazing~!!
what did you learn today ?

I am a cornucopia of useless information... bet you didnt know that!!!! or maybe you did alreadY!!

Ah ha! I like this thread already!

Today I learned that London and Munich were hit by air raids the exact same number of times during WWII. Both cities were bombed 71 times exactly. Makes sense in a way, but just something I did not know before.

Almack's Assembly Rooms were destroyed in 1944 during an air raid, but a new office building was constructed in its place and it is now called "Almack House" as a nod to the original building. For those who do not know, Almack's Assembly Rooms were the center of the London Season during the later half of the 18th and through most of the 19th century.

wow I didnt know any of that!! Amazing!

of course since this is a large global community most in fact probably have never heard of the Mayflower so it gives them something to learn also..

I cant find my relatives further back than 1843 in gonzales texas. I did learn that my great grannys name was Alice. I dont know why we called her 'mimi'...I have something else to learn but I fear I am the only one left in that line and it will cease as I have no male heir to the name..

Subrosa thats quite a pedigree you have in your family lines..Amazing!!!

and bombed 71 times each.. They were trying to keep up with each other but I didnt know that!! Amazing!

Soobie you are related to Sally Field then.. You have celebrity status...

absolutely Amazing!

I was in a Bee Keeping course this weekend......

I didn't know that the queen honey bee is the only bee in the hive which can sting multiple times as her stinger is not barbed. All the workers have barbed stingers which rip out of their bodies when stabbed into their victim.

I didn't know that the queen bee senses the diameter of the comb cell to determine if she will lay an unfertilized egg (to make a drone) or a fertilized egg (to make a worker). The drone cells are larger in diameter.
