I used to have betta fish too..but it is just too difficult to maintain for me..and from my early years of aquarium hobby, if proper water conditions not met, like poor or no aeration, it will just kill the fish slowly..so I guess that is just what is happening to your pet, a slow death. So I gave up the hobby altogether, as much as I like to have them.

So I ended up using my nice betta containers into kitchen decor

Never, never flush them down the toilet or let go in a river. Do the freezer trick, I have done this and it doesn't take very long. Poor Betta fish. One has to take care of there own problems, like having to put down your dogs not easy but when you get a dog you also get these problems.

Now, bettas in setups like this usually flare at each other all day long, but for some reason, they don't do that in her setup at the store. I have been tempted to get one of these myself because I do love bettas.

So... I think the answer for your dude, so he can avoid shuffling off his mortal coil and your desire to have fish that swim around... is this thing:

Amazon.com : Aqueon Kit Betta Falls for Aquarium, Black : Pet Supplies

Oh... and dude... seriously, don't get a puppy. I'm on a waiting list for a puppy and I'm trying to figure out how to build a wall around my plants, because Lab puppies eat stuff... all kinds of stuff. I once had one chew a hole in the middle of my wall when I stepped out the front door for five minutes to talk to some Jehovah's Witnesses.

I don't think that's likely unless a fish parasite can fly in the air and find its way into my tank.

I have had this fish in perfectly healthy condition for about two years. There are no other fish in the tank and I use tap water with chemical conditioner.
I use dry fish food.

I think I'll just dump it in the river and forget about it.
Seeing it all frozen will really make me feel like I'm a killer.

Hey, that's why I don't raise children.
