Aechmea fasciatas in bloom - third generation plants (with video)
These bromeliads are the grandchildren of one plant brought home several years ago. The plant flowers when mature, then slowly dies, sending out 'pups' from its base. Then the cycle begins again, with each pup needing 2-3 years to mature. Pretty epic.
I did not use the old apple-in-a-bag trick. I just peeled them off their parent plants, potted them in fresh mix, and placed them in a sunny window. Voila! The bracts began forming at the beginning of June, or about two months ago.
For more about how these plants were divided, see this video about them I produced back in March.
