Plumeria make fantastic live mounts for orchids to grow on as well.

Beautiful!
One thing I loved about visiting Hawaii was these big Plumaria trees with big fragrant flowers on them.
I wanted to buy the cuttings at the airport, but I thought they needed to get very big to start blooming.
How do you grow it in winter? I know you're in mild climate, but just curious regarding your care of this plant.

i keep looking at the bigger plumerias and thinking the same thing - wonder if an orchid would like that as a mount...can't try it out right now though, the winter will kill the ones i have.
this one is scented - its rather strong if you get in close, um very perfumey - i don't really have a good reference for the scent
After reading up on a plumeria forum - i came to the conclusion that i did everything wrong getting this guy started. but it started and grew, I had it in morning sun and it loved it, lots of leaves. didn't realize these guys go dormant in winter...so for the first 2 years it didn't get a winter rest. it finally got to be a bit too big to be inside, so i kicked it outside last summer partial sun. then as it got colder, the plant dropped its leaves and i reduced watering a lot. tried not to let it freeze - we did have some nights below freezing, but not too many - early spring, once it started coming back to life, i gradually moved it to full sun and it bloomed for me.
this is my first plumeria ever - had never seen one before. they are neat trees. I have a second cutting that i started at the beginning of winter and its growing along nicely, now outside with the other one - we will see if this one blooms in spring or not...

Well, I don't think Hawaii gets that cool in the winter, but Plumerias grow huge there.
What kind of winter do they need??
