So I'm growing some tomatoes and wonder if anyone out there has experience with those green spikes sold at Home Depot.

Are they any good or should I just buy a bottle of liquid fertilizer for tomatoes??

I have used them with just houseplants, but for tomatoes, I think I would use powdered/crystalized or liquid fertilizer you mix with water. Seems like it would be more quickly and easily absorbed, including through the foliage.

i don't know we haven't fertilized our tomatoes this year. last year we filled the bed with lots of manure and fresh soil. it seems to be holding this year as well.

If they're labeled for tomatoes / vegetables / flowers they should be good.

For tomatoes, I have used both the Dynamite flower and vegetable fert, as well as nutricote - both are sustained / slow release fertilizer.

Oh, I forgot about the granular stuff.

I just get one pack of spike stuff and osmocot stuff and see how they compare.
