My Amaryllis

It is spring now andsome of my Amaryllis begin blooming.

I have one amaryllis and it grows beautiful long leaves. That's it, just leaves. What an I doing wrong?????

Do you dry them off and winter them in cool temps. Some people unpot them in the winter, I leave mine potted but with the pot covered (so it's dark) in the cool greenhouse (5C min). Some people put them in the fridge, some leave them in a cool greenhouse.

They should loose the leaves as water is withdrawn, once they have lost all leaves is the time to chill them, however I find I have to just cut all the leaves off at some point, probably because I start drying them too late.

I've heard they need about 6 weeks cool to flower properly. I often leave mine a couple of months or more.

Once they have had their cool period you then bring them in, pot them up and water once, then don't water again until they are growing.

My plants are all grown outdoors and i seldom water them. In spring till late summer, we have a lot of rain here and in winter it seldom rains, which seems to good for these bulbs. Repotting is a good way to awake them as well.

Ok, I am a horrible amar. mom. I did let this one have a dry out but I did it last summer. Then put it in my greenhouse dry until it started growing leaves again. Haven't been watering a ton since it started growing again. Just decided to up the water. I have leaves about 3 feet long that are very turgid and the bulb is shiny green/white.
