In my opinion, age is a state of mind, my friend! My 25 year-old roommate used to always complain about how old she was!

I never really got into Voyager but I remember that in TNG, Chief O'Brien's wife, Keiko, could always be found with orchids in that gorgeous conservatory! If I was on the NCC-1701-D, I would have split my free time between there and, of course, the holodeck!

I really love the leaves of plants as they are so different, unique and beautiful. They are the identity for most plants. The 'mite' is from our beloved Eskie-dog as we use that as part of her nick-name.
My spouse is very much into Star Trek. I had to watch them all (episodes and movies) when we were first married. :|

Mine is from fan fiction based off the Lord of the Rings. The name is the fan fiction human name of the Witch-king of Angmar, also known as the Lord of the Nazgûl and the Black Captain. At the time I joined the Orchid Board I was really into the Lord of the Rings and I really really didn't trust the internet at all, so using my real name was out of the question. Couple the two together and I came up with Tindomul, who is number 1 of the 9 or alternatively 1 out of the 9 Nazgûl.

"escualida" or "escualido" (for female and male respectively) in Spanish traditionally meant "scrawny" or "emaciated". Hugo Chávez actually started using it to describe and insult his opposition. The opposition then sort of took it on as a badge of honor and now sort of wear it with pride.

Orquídea + Alex, a word play on orchid in Spanish (sans the accent) and my first name. I grew up in a largely Mexican neighborhood, so I have a childhood fondness for the language and a few traditions despite not being hispanic myself.

I think we need to include the explanation of some avatars (is that the right word for those pictures next to the names?). Kim, is that a frog hanging from a flower bud? Its not quite big enough for me to make it out. In my mind its been a frog named tuvoc.

Yup, but I never gave him a name. Tuvoc works for me.

Finally, my question answered lol. Every time I saw your nick, I wondered of you were a Trek fan or were aware of the Tuvoc episodes with orchids as part of the plot. Kaplah!
As to my name, just my first name with middle and last name initials, not very exciting.

Optimist
I'm not. If I had named myself Pessimist (which I almost did) I thought that no one would talk to me.
