Musicians?

I just want to see if anyone else on OB is a musician or shares a love for music. Post what you like and some recommendations for everyone else?

I play piano (hence the name "JKeys"), I have been since I was seven. I love music, including classical, jazz, alternative, the Beatles, and everything else!

I can recommend some songs, albums and bands that have captured my interest of late:

I used to play flute and some piano, but it's been a long time

I enjoy many genres, but mostly listen to rock, 50's/60s rock and pop, 80s/90s alternative.

I do enjoy classical music, but don't often listen to it - I will say, as far as playing music, it's a favorite

I play piano (badly) and tinker at electronic music from time to time. Most people seem to think my taste in music is "odd" (much of it glories under odd genre names) - it's certainly eclectic; I'll give most things a chance, but I generally prefer instrumental stuff over vocals.

I have an entire gigantic PA rig from back before I had a serious girlfriend (now wife) and being a DJ was the most fun I could have.

I used to play the flute and still occasionally do to accompany singing in church. I also try and play the piano but not very well.

My taste in music to listen to is very wide ranging. It ranges through Classical, Pop, Rock, 80s/90s Metal, 80s/90s alternative, Prog Rock & Prog Metal (again mostly from 80s/90s). Various other stuff as well. It's hard to say because I don't really look at what type of music it is, just if I like it I listen to it

I play the piano...my first love The orchids on my piano do the best...I wonder if it's the music?

I've been struggling to find new music to play...my favorite composers are Chopin and Beethoven...but it's like when you read all the books from your favorite author...where do you go next? At least with literature there's new stuff coming out all the time...but Classical and Romantic music...it's not the same. So any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm not into jazz, but love classicals and 80s/90s pops.

My all time favorites are many of well-known pieces of Chopin and Campanella by Listz. I like any that are bright and busy, hence keeps me happy and excited!
I do like some slow and more serious ones depending on the mood, but ...

Not a piano piece, but I like to wake up listening to Peer Gynt ( aka Morning Mood) by Edvard Grieg. I can never get enough of it. So calm and peaceful and beautiful!!!


For pops, any slow tempo songs that have cheesy nice romantic lyrics to sing along with when the weather is cold like it is now. lol

"Everthing I do, I do it for you" is a great example of what I like and sing. The original was played on the piano as well, and it is just so beautiful to me, both the melody and the words.

"Thank you for the Music" by ABBA (I know this is 70s but) is also almong my favorites.

I can't say that I listen to a whole lot of classical piano, but most of what I have heard from Debussy I really like. I find his music very impressionistic and colorful.

Tracy, very interesting about the orchids on the piano -- I wonder if any serious scientific studies have been done on plants and music?

Regarding the music and plants (not orchids), there was a study done on the influence of different music on plants.

Two greenhouses full of young napa cabbage.
One greenhouse had gentle classical music played.
The other heavy metal.

Plant growth was checked weekly for about one month until one greenhouse that was exposed to heavy metal, nearly all the plants died!

I think I would have died too! lol

I need to be in the right mood to listen to heavy metal - it affects my mood greatly, so I would usually listen to it before a game or something.

After research, there seem to be mixed results about different studies. Many have shown that rock music negatively affects plant growth, while peaceful music expiates the growth of plants. Myth busters did a study that showed that heavy rock/metal was more beneficial. So I guess it's up in the air.

I think the result will be only somewhat more convincing if there was consistency, the same type of plants being a big part I believe.

Some plants might actually like loud music while others like peaceful one. lol

The one I read up on was napa cabbage.
