Corn Palm (Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana') Flowering! Female
Default Corn Palm (Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana') Flowering!

My apartment smells very strongly of jasmine and honeysuckle!

I was given this plant about 8 years ago by a neighbor in the apartment complex where I was living. I took it in and dressed it up in Christmas lights that winter (I had no other Solstice tree for many years....)

It has bloomed several times for me, and though the internet suggests corn palms are a "rare bloomer", I would estimate it has bloomed every 2 years reliably.

In our appartments they are rare bloomers. In the city streets of south Brazil I've seen big Dracaenas in full bloom. It's all about good growing.

Awesome that you have been able to bloom it so much. My family has had mine for over 30 years. It only bloomed once about 5 years ago. The scent was so strong my wife (fiance at the time) was getting an asthma attack from it, but I love the scent. So I am glad it hasn't flowered again. While at the same time I would love to say I got it to flower again.

Default Frequent indoor bloomer, more like...

Ok guys, I think we need to put this "rarely blooms indoors" myth to rest.

I have been working hard lately (and getting home well after dark/my lights go off), so I don't have a good picture at peak bloom, but as you can see, my Dracaena is at it again. I even trimmed one of the branches after the last bloom (and I have another plant!)

Maybe after a certain age they bloom frequently and most people just don't keep them around long enough? Seriously, my orchids don't bloom this frequently (though, that may say more about my orchid skills...)

The jasmine/honeysuckle fragrance is really fantastic! But good point, Tindomul - my sis-in-law had trouble visiting (she has asthma too) when both inflorescences bloomed at once in January...
