Default Help our Snowy Owls

Here in NYC, the Port Authority of NY and NJ had started killing Snowy Owls to help protect planes (and people) from potentially fatal effects of owl/plane collisions.
However, Logan international airport has been controlling the owls non-lethally for years by trapping and relocating. The owls like airports because it reminds them of their tundra home. This year, there are more Snowy Owls heading south than ever before. Please help us get some political pressure so that they never do this again. Shooting Owls is a dangerous precedent.

here is a link to the petition, even though they have already agreed to stop killing, its important to keep signing because they will see how abhorrent this practice is.

Thanks!

Here is a picture and video of one I saw at Jamiaca Bay Wildlife Refuge (just across a bay from JFK Airport), that I saw last January. They are magnificent birds.

Also NY TIMES article to go with it.

And finally, please sign the petition.

What idiots. Couldn't find the petition, though, Tindo.

I am against the killing, but at the same time I think I understand the "authority" s position.
Screening and capturing the big bird each time may not be easy at such a crazy hectic place as an airport.

Where do they relocate them by the way??
and do they not come back to the airport once they are relocated?

Most likely relocated to other open coastal habitats. Beaches etc...
Hopefully they don't return, and if they do, hopefully they get recaptured.
