UniHeat 72 Hour Shipping Warmers - HOW TO USE??? Male
Default UniHeat 72 Hour Shipping Warmers - HOW TO USE???

ok, since I am living in Florida for quite some time, I never kinda thing ahead, for example about the fact that fall/winter weather is approaching and it is pretty much dangerous and impossible to ship orchids out of Florida without using some shipping heat packs/warmers.
I have few plants I may have ship the end of next month, and I would like to buy and use these, I found them on eBay. They say that they provides an average surface temp of 100 Degrees F.
Does anyone ever use heat pack to ship, and if so, HOW I should use it??? I do assume there must be certain way so the poor plants won't bake inside the box, but I have no clue how to use them and how to pack plants/box to make it safe???
Many thanks for any advice!

First of all, 100° is not going to hurt the plants, but the idea is to keep the interior of the box warm, not to heat the plants directly.

My cold-weather packaging methodology is as follows:
  1. Anchor the potting medium in the pot. - I often use paper towels and masking tape.
  2. Lay a pile of shredded paper on several sheets of newspaper or equivalent, and place the plant on top of the pile.
  3. Completely surroiunding the pant with the shredded paper, roll it up in the sheets, folding in the ends. You now have a plant that is padded and thermally insulated.
  4. Remove the heat pack from its plastic wrapper and lay it (or them, depending upon the size of the box) on the bottom. Add a layer of styrofoam peanuts, place the plants on top and fill with peanuts.
  5. Tape up the box, but DO NOT make it air tight, or the heat packsd will die.
