Poor Mans Orchids ( Iris )
Now that the weather has changed for the better. No rain expected for the next 2 days HOPEFULLY, It's time to divide the Iris's and add a new one. I'll be dividing and replanting Made of Magic, it's a two tone dark purple-red that's out grown it location down to 4 fans. and adding Edith Wolford, two tone Lt. yellow standards, with Lt. blue falls. An old favorite of mine. Got her from my sisters yesterday. I've always liked calling Iris's the poor mans orchids, there as beautiful and frilly as the best cattleyas, and nowhere near the price and easer to grow in the north when your limited in the space you have for the real ones inside. Lots of love and happy growing. JamesL...........

I love irises. I do find that they take a lot of space and only last a few weeks, though. I once went to an iris farm in Ontario where there were acres of them in bloom. It is something I will always remember.

All finished with planting and re-planting the Iris's, everyone is in there new home and watered in, even found new homes for all the extras. Now it's time for a bloody mary and a catalog of tulips for next spring. Lots of love and happy growing... JamesL

I love those German Iris. Soooo many beautiful colors to choose from and nicely scented. Now there are even reblooming hybrids that flower in the spring and again in the fall.
I also love Siberian Iris, Dutch Iris (tubers), and certain Japanese Iris.

Oh, yeah, those are so cute as well.
I like big stuff though, German Iris being my favorite type.

I also am addicted to tall bearded Iris. For me the best time to take them out and divide them is after summer holidays, when the heat and dry periods are over, in September / October.

When I used to grow them, I also divided them in the early fall.
