How about an alternative view?
The truth about global warming - it's the Sun that's to blame - Telegraph

well... with our actions we can either improve or hinder that effect. and that applies whether "it's the sun that's to blame" or not.

Yes, yes.... Very good article. It is important that we get other views and other possible causes as well. But its impossible for me to understand how people refuse to believe that fossil fuels are doing major damage to the world's weather!
In any case. My view is that man has 70% - 90% of the blame. BUT THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE ON HAND!!
The issue is that people need to be made aware of climate change. A topic that only 5 years ago was not entirely accepted but now is blatantly obvious. And we need to start deciding what to do with this time that is given to us. Are we to continue to add more problems or are we going to adapt?
Most people that I speak to still don't believe that climate change is an issue.

Global warming to alter Calif. landscape - Yahoo! News

Surely all this is overshadowed by the effect that a big volcanic eruption cause?

shakkai 12-30-2007 11:12 AM

Judi, Yes, a 'big' event like that would undoubtedly produce more immediate and drastic changes. But, I think that the difference between an event like a volcanic eruption - or an earthquake - and the changes we're seeing is that those events are acute, and once over, recovery begins... With climate change, it is a chronic condition that continues to worsen over time...

The accumulation of lots of little minor events is in some ways more worrying:

Remember, if you throw a frog into boiling water he will immediately jump out. However, if you slowly heat up the water with the frog in it, he will stay and boil to death.

Small, slow changes that everyone gets used to tend to get ignored until we are 'at the boiling point' it seems.

I do believe that climate change is real, but I am not sure how much is natural and how much is man made. 50+ years ago they were telling us that we are going to go Thur another Ice age. I totally believe that we should do everything possible to eliminate the use of fossil fuels, Stop cutting down trees that give us oxygen and keep the atmosphere in check. RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE. There are better ways (nowadays) to power things. The earth has and will go thur natural changes that man can do nothing to stop! I hate to say it but the earth is not going last forever no matter what. Even if we go back to living in caves. Do what you can as responsible inhabitants to help but at the same time you need to enjoy your life here. Your time here even if you live to be 150 years is but a flash in time. I believe in "Do NO Harm".

How does that song by ABBA go ... "Money, Money, Money, sure is funny, it's a rich mans world ..." we have the technology to be free from fossil fuels and hence "Global Warming" ... but there is no money to be made from that.
