My views are still the same. I'm curious to see what happens! Maybe something happens, maybe (probably) not.

Yeah but it will be a very unhappy Christmas.
I think we will all be here for decades to come which may not be good for the planet but it will be good for us.

Yeah, we are bound to destroy our environment sooner or later.
I am not confident enough to predict millenia.
Let's stop growing in population and let's stop using economic growth as an excuse for destroying our environment and then I will predict longer term......

Well they are now calling into question the accuracy of the translation of the Mayan Calendar dates is faulty and we may have already past their end date or it could be further in the future, in short, no one knows.
I'm kinda pessimistic about things and I predict some of us will live long enough to see some fireworks (the bad kind). Well hope not. All I hope for is that we can learn to share the planet with other animals and plants. Oh and fungi too.

The world will end someday, whether or not it is because of man or something we have no control of is yet to be seen. And I don't think it's anytime soon. I also don't think that people from the past had any more knowledge or foresight then we do now. WE are so much more advanced then they were. I'll think I'll listen to modern day scientist and astronomers before I do the Mayan's.

Hey all,
Lets ressurect this thread
Since we started this thread, the population of the world was not yet 7 billion
I remember we hit that number in October/November 2011.
We were supposed to hit that number in 2012, not 2011.
How many major earhtquakes have hit the world since 2008? Probably about as many as every other decade, only difference is that we are now getting in the way of these earthquakes more and more.
April 1, 2007 Solomon Islands 8.1
August 15, 2007 Peru 8.0
September 12, 2007 Sumatra, Indonesia 8.5
September 29, 2009 Samoa Islands 8.1 with Sunami
January 12, 2010 Haiti 7.0 death toll at 222,570
February 27, 2010 Chile 8.8
March 11, 2011 Japan 9.0 Sunami
We recently had Mexico 7.4 and Sumatra with an 8.6
