What's the weirdest thing you've eaten?
Last night, on a different thread, a few of us got slightly off topic (IKEA curtains led to horse meat meatballs led to a discussion about the weirdest stuff we've ever eaten)! What is the weirdest or most different thing you've ever eaten? How was it? Where were you when you ate it?
Mine is probably mountain lion. I lived in Colorado and befriended a butcher. The guy who brought him the mountain lion only wanted it for its pelt. We made burgers out of it. It was interesting to say the least. And also kangaroo, spent 6 months in Melbourne, Australia.
How bout you guys?

dried mopane worms ( no taste ), flying ants ( termite bellies, taste like butter ) - all in Zimbabwe.
I thought that Africans ate the weirdest stuff, but I saw unbelievable things being consumed in the street markets of Beijing. Scorpions, day-old chicks, egg embryos, grasshoppers - basically anything you can think of............but I never did taste them !

I had a field day eating in Beijing. Most of its really good if you get past it.
I'm gonna have to think on the weirdest thing but the best thing I had in Beijing was roasted honeybees which were rather sadistically smothered in s honey sauce.
It was actually very delicious.

another one for me, but really a national dish in Portugal.
It was reconstituted bacalhau ( dried fish ). The menu was in Portuguese, so it wasn't deliberate. It had the most revolting fishy smell that I couldn't even taste it. I think most of us are brought up to think that if anything smells "bad", it must be "bad ".............as in off.
Someone a couple of years ago at work had microwaved fish. That is a big no-no as it stinks up the place. Well that smell reminded me of that bacalhau.
Dried bacalhau is virtually odorless and found everywhere in Portugal.

Dang, apparently I really need to travel the world! Zebra?? Lol! I bet reindeer would be good. Is it like a combo of venison and elk??
I don't think I could eat insects. What is bacalhau?

I ate Reindeer in Finland and Zebra, Antelope, etc.in S. Africa. Rattlesnake was in Arizona!
Bacalhau is dried cod that is reconstituted in milk and I have tried it - I think it is disgusting, but the Portuguese treat it like a national delicacy!

whale.... I don't think that's weird but you don't find it everywhere.
Almost like sweet tender beef.
