I could not believe what I found at Home Depot, the other day! I was doing the usual check for eye-catching orchids, when my eye was caught by something else.....
Tacca chanterii (black bat plant) and
Tacca integrifolia (white bat plant). I had seen them on line, but pictures just don't do them justice. They are almost like a giant Paphiopedilum, and prefer just about the same growing conditions. The black one was pretty cheap, but the white one is a little more rare (i.e. more costly), which is why I was surprised to see it at the Depot. Here's a picture of the white one, the black one is in spike....but looks like it may open by Halloween, so I'll post a pic asap. The petals will fall down to the sides, like wings.
