Ryan- Wow~ you make your own hybrids?? That is so cool! I'm too lazy for that. Enought nice hybrids for me to shop out there still. After I buy them all, maybe I will begin making my own too whenever that will be. hahaha
I really wish I had a castle sized home to grow lots of hippies (as you call it).
So, Ryan, you bought from royal colors? I found their website while internet surfing last year and actually corresponded with the owner back and forth. He was very nice and the fact that they ship to US is just super! hmmmm now I'm really tempted! ha~
Camille- Kukenhof garden is my dream place to visit!!! ahhhhhh~~~~ I had a short visit to Amsterdam but didn't make it out there. dang! next time I'm in Germany, I will visit the Netherlands again.
Well, if I lived near Holland, I think I will be spending so much money. I am a big time bulb lover!

Keukenhof is AMAZING!! I try to go every 2 years, and this spring I'll certainly be going again now that I have a dslr camera! The photo opportunities there are endless, though the hoards of tourists sort of ruin it.

Just took pictures of Benfica again. I love this deep red color on them!
The rest are from last year.
Mix of Aphrodite (one of the few I kept), Alfresco, Bolero, Amigo, Amalfi, Show Master (love this one and also kept two!).
The last one is not my picture. It is Monaco and is on my wishlist.

Oh, I'm sure you can spend all week taking picturs there! yeah, those tourists ruin my NYC experience somtimes as well.
Lucky you! For now, I just look at Kukenhof pictures online. I used to have this gigantic size picture of Kukenhof garden with lots of daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, muscari, fritilaria along green grass and stream neaby. (and thank goodness with no tourists in it hahaha) on my wall.

Pretty nice, right?
and this photo is a bad one, the picture being taken with my old phone in the bathroom light.
These flowers are just stunning!!!!
I bought one in bud. I loved the flowers so much that I bought another one month after. I kept them both!
They are one of those that are bred for lots of scapes, so these produce three per bulb.
I almost threw away one of them right before I moved last spring though. I enjoyed two scapes, then never watered them. the bulbs shrunk really bad. I was about to toss, but then it was pushing up a third scape. so I brought it with me. The bulb grew 13 leaves and now the bulb is bigger than when I bought it!!! and it made a small side bulb with two leaves. How cute!
I'm not sure if the tag was correct though. I have such hard time distinguishing Carisma, Temptation, and Show Master. they all look similar and I like them all, so who cares?

I went last year and I cannot say how amazing it is! We went to the Floriade in Venlo a few days before and were so disappointed. Then we went to Keukenhof which exceeded every expectation. Definitely put in on your must-visit-list!

This is my latest Amaryllis bloom. It was labeled as a dark raspberry red (clearly not!)
Most exciting is one that I have with blublets. Both parent and bulblets are spiked. Picture as soon as it blooms - I promise!

I didn't even bother going to Venlo. Though I heard that it was much nicer in the summer than it was in the spring, since more things were blooming.
What shocks me is that most Dutch people I know have NEVER gone to the Keukenhof! One coworker has his parents living pretty much across the street from it, and he never, ever went. But I suppose it's the same everywhere, if you're a native you tell yourselve you have all the time in the world to go, while expats like me know that we got to fully appreciate the years we spend in the country.

Looks to me like Apple Blossom? I love it!
My aunt used to grow smaller flowered old variety back in the 80s. It was red with white stripes. She got one bulbs from a neighbor and over the course of 20 years, it multiplied to more than 20!!!
I remember she would give her bulblets away to other people.
When all the bulbs were in bloom, it was quite the show!
