Mine too. I strongly remember my Forest Service fire-fighting days and how this sort of thing can ruin one's day. My thoughts and prayers are with all the local folks.

Hoping everyone remains safe. Ex-Californian here! Left after the '94 Northridge earthquake where I lost everything......

Stay safe!

Thanks Susanne and Ross,
I'm flipping back and forth from the tv and the internet to keep informed and to keep friends and relitives informed of the situation.

There's nothing quite as terrifying, awe inspiring, and destructive as an out of control wild fire. I was in S. Oregon for the Biscuit Fire in 2002 and by the time it was out it had burned nearly 500,000 acres. It tore through the Kalmiopsis (sounds like an orchid huh?) Wilderness Area like a freight train. They never were able to contain it let alone control it. The winter rains finally put it out in October.

Everybody be safe, and evacuate if you have to. Remember your stuff is just that....stuff. You can always get more stuff.

A note on the lighter side, we all know the mail moto, well it was stopped today due to the fires.
The air is so dry it is almost unbearable for anyone with breathing problems to breath, my humidistat reads 1%
with winds in the 50mph range. I'm currently in no danger but I can see the flames from my yard but the smoke is the worst.

I am soooo sorry. . .

I've been through out of control wildfires too, a couple of times. Here in the dry Colorado mountains, forestfires are always a danger and they are super scary, as many of you know.

We've been evacuated a couple of times in the past six years. The first fire that came through our area burned down the house across the street, as well as seven or so others in the immediate neighborhood. Lots of animals wild and domestic were lost. It is not a nice experience, it's terrible and destructive, but it's not an evil thing. . .it's just part of the natural cycle of things.

Be ready to get out of harm's way in very short notice. . .pack up all the cherished pictures, quilts, have your animal carriers and water ready to go, have all your important insurance and financial papers gathered together. Load up the car with just the essentials, clothes and grooming items. Your home and the stuff in it can be replaced.

Be safe and know there are many people sending you their heartfelt prayers.
