For better or for worse...

As some may know, I've had a bit of a hard work history recently. After a few more months, my partner and I decided that my health and our relationship was far more important than the job culture, which for me was toxic. I have given my notice and asked that they find my replacement while I search for a job so I can transfer the companies knowledge capital to someone else. While many have told me they wouldn't give this company that respect, I just can't do it. I am very respectful, even in the face of adversity.

Let's just hope that I can find a job to support my orchid habit, lol...!!!!

Good luck.

If you want a bit of advice...

If all else fails, try working in security. The pay may not that great, but at least you have income until you bounce to the next big, bad job. My .

Congratulations on making such an important decision and I applaud your decision to exit with dignity and under your own terms.

I recently choose to retire from a large pharmaceutical company as soon as I was eligible, and, like you, I carefully documented and transferred knowledge. I even took several phone calls after my retirement to help out. I am so glad I did as I can rest easy knowing that I did the right thing for my staff who I cared about deeply, and the company.

Good Luck with your job search or whatever this next phase brings.

Thank you everyone, and suggestions are always welcome in my book!

I have to say it was weight lifted from my chest, and while I haven't enjoyed the management style, I did appreciate the experience for my resume. I care a lot about my coworkers, despite the drama a select few can start. That is why I was trying to document all of my processes and all of my knowledge capital before I quit, but then they approached me with the opportunity to stay to train my replacement to which I agreed and full heartedly welcome.

Unfortunately, somebody told somebody something about me leaving, and apparently this person is causing a stink. This person has been a loose cannon in my book, and continues to be so despite my repeated warnings to keep things to himself and be extremely careful how you word things.

I just really hope and pray that I can leave on good terms. HR asked me today if I told this person anything. To be honest, I was trying to give him information that I felt he would need without telling him anything, but he was making strange comments like, "yeah, I need to know this." So I strategically asked a few questions and he pretty much told me that he already knew. To be honest, I'm not completely sure he did not fish it out of me and told me that our supervisor had already told him...

My apologies for my rambling. It was really frustrating when I'm trying to leave on a positive note for everyones moral, and then to hear that somebody is trying to destroy that. Despite my own personal situation, I wish the company nothing but the best. I believe in their mission and I truly hope the best for their future.

Oh dear. I'm sorry things have gotten out of hand, but I'm glad the HR is involved. Keep them in the loop. They are a powerful ally and can be a formidable force.

My only advice is to take the high road and limit your interactions with this toxic individual. This link is to an article about the impact of negativity on our brains. Hope it inspires you (and maybe others)

Thank you everyone, and thank you for that link!

I was nowhere near as stressed today as I was yesterday. However, in consideration I have begun to realize that while I could stay there and train my replacement, it is also a risk for them. Anything I say and do at this point could become toxic as soon as the announcement is made. I really hope and pray the toxic does not happen, I do not want to be part of toxic.

Thought I would give everybody an update. I am still at my job, but they expect to hire somebody and have them in either Thursday or Friday. If that truly happens, I will be out of the company and gainfully unemployed in about one week.

The sad thing is that I came across constant issues today that I have faced for over a year, and suddenly they decided the new person cannot handle this. They decided that it is far above anybody's paygrade and only a manager should be doing what I have been doing for over a year. They also concluded that I do not get any support in trying to do my job, and that strict policies in black-and-white need to be put on paper for everyone to follow. Nothing like quitting to get people to realize that there are real issues that need to be addressed, and quickly.

Geez, I wish they had thought about doing that when I still was working there And continually brought these issues up. LOL... Man oh man, I feel so sorry for the person that takes my job.

Good Luck! It's amazing how someone leaving can shake things up and open some eyes. Sometimes, that's what it takes. When I retired, I was replaced by 2 people - no wonder I was burned out! I think it is more common than you think!

Best of luck. I found the same thing, by leaving I made them think about the way things are done. Sometimes you just have to take the step to avoid the stress.
