Default What kind of bugs can I feed my frogs and lizards?

I want to get some bugs for my frogs and lizards. I want them to be beneficial for my orchids too. I mean that they dont eat my orchids and then I have to kill everythings. The frogs and lizards look skinny though in my porch garden like they dont have enough food and I dont want to see mister lizard eating michigan j frog ya know. They ate all my mantis's they did as I cant find even a single one. I can only find 2 lady bugs. They might have just run away I dont know. They are free to leave if they want but if I feed the animals they will stay and keep my garden clean, huh?. Can you tell me what I can buy or catch to feed them on a regular basis? Just little brown tree frogs some gekkos of different kinds and anoles. They scare the crap out me at night when Im digging around in my plants , I have moving bark and leaping leaves ...I got an orchid at 3 am and it needed water took it to the sink had a lizard sleeping on it. did my thing watered the plant very carefully and put it back and the lizard never moved. They sleep quite soundly when I think they should be eating.
Thanks you Im having fun with bugs and reptiles now too!!

It sounds like you are having fun with this...How about crickets from the pet store. I think both frogs and lizards eat them....Jean

I think crickets might be bigger than da frogs. These are what are in my garden. They are chirping little boogers. maybe one can tell me what kind this frog is.

They're finding food or they wouldn't be hanging around. You can probably google 'Texas frogs' or such and find out what you have there. Let us know!

RJ they have tiny little crickets at my pet store, OR you could go buy them an ant farm. You could drill a very tiny hole in it and when the ant came out it would work as a tiny little food dispenser...lol... Jean

RJ, you are more than welcome to my bugs - no charge but you will have to collect.
I can offer you a wide range, all very healthy and over-fed on my orchids.
I believe White Rabbit is correct as predators don't hang around just because you are a nice person.

a food dispenser ....thats about what the mantis egg case ended up being was a dispenser. frogs where just sitting there with there mouth open. I tried to save them. I cant find anymore mantis egg cases right now in town. Imagine introducing crawly things to your orchids. Its almost sacrilegious. I stop using pesticides completely for now. When the wildlife runs off and it gets cooller I may have to re think this scenario of my patio being a sanctuary..I have some new ideas now..good lord what next?

When I had a pet tree frog we would turn on the outside lights to attract moths and other flying insects. Perhaps you could put a lamp outside that would be low enough to attract insects to where you want them.
