Default Petition - Please sign! Great Barrier Reef

Australia could let mining magnates build one of the world's largest coal ports on top of the Great Barrier Reef ecosystem -- opening access to 8 billion extra tonnes of planet-killing coal and risking the survival of this entire amazing world heritage site.

But a bank owned by the US public is key to the project and global pressure could cause the bank to pull out.

Nenella, I admire your good intentions and agree with you 100% but......... the ultimate decision lies with the Australian federal and Queensland state governments.

If you wish to partition either of these, the partition has to be in the correct format or it will not be accepted.

I am sure Mr Palmer (the multi billionaire involved) and any international bank will totally ignore your partition if it gets in the way of huge profits.

It would be similar to Australia and New Zealand complaining bitterly about France testing nuclear weapons in the Pacific some years ago - the tests went ahead anyway despite the outcry.

Australia's Ecological Footprint in the Living Planet Report 2008 was 7.8 global hectares (gha) per person. This is 2.8 times the average global Footprint (2.7 gha), and well beyond the level of what the planet can regenerate on an annual basis - an equivalent of about 2.1 global hectares per person per year.

The most significant factor contributing to the Australian Ecological Footprint is carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels (constituting approximately half of the total Australian Footprint).

Signed.
( but I understand resistance is futile and we will be assimilated.)
