Default Amaryllis-Making It Bloom Again

I've had this plant since last Christmas. How do you make it bloom again? I know it's supposed to go into dormant, but how do YOU know when it is?

The key to getting an amaryllis to rebloom is giving it enough sunshine during the growing season to regenerate the bloom(s). I generally put mine outside and give them morning sun and then in the early fall stop watering and let the foliage die off. Then you put them in the refrigerator and fool them into thinking they have been through a winter for approximately two months. Then you bring them out and repot and wa-laaa! Another amayllis bloom! I have found out this summer that people in florida grow these year round and NEVER let them go dormant - but allow them to stay green year round and then they bloom naturally in the spring. I'm thinking of keeping them green this year and see what happens come spring - blooms? Will see! Good luck on yours! mike

Cool! Thank you sooo much! I kept reading in the house plant book that I have, but it never really made sense.
Thanks again!

I treat mine pretty much the same way as Mayres, but mine just go into my basement. It's dark and fairly cool down there. They go down about the first of Sept. I bring them up a few at a time just after Thanksgiving, repot and water, and enjoy. I almost always get at least one to bloom in the summer too. Double whammy!

Well, I've stopped giving it water now. Keep you posted on what happens. When it blooms, I will post it!
Thanks again!
