Gloxinia
this has been in the family over 30 years and has truly travelled around the world. Easy to grow, just like amaryllis and requiring a rest period. Each year it seeds and when I start re-watering after the rest, they germinate. I have never grown them on as, just like an African Violet, it is very easy to propagate through leaf cuttings. This year I have crossed with a so-called florist gloxinia but I don't expect success as there was hardly any pollen to be harvested on the florist gloxinia. I have never grown a forest g - have been told that they are annuals.

Its a big plant. The bulb is 6 in in diameter and main flowering is may. It's had up to 30 flowers simultaneously.

I took some leaf cuttings last year and experimented by not giving mommy such an extended rest. I could afford to because of the cuttings doing so well !

new growth - time for repotting.
Its at least 8inches in diameter and 4-5 inches deep. Its a monster. I thought it had rotted but it is as hard as a rock all over.
