First Blooms - African Violet Male
Default First Blooms - African Violet

As a kid, I used to root cuttings from my mom's African Violets, but I never had the patience/diligence to grow them to blooming. So even though it isn't rocket science, I am excited about this first one to bloom for me!

The original plant was brought to us by a friend when my wife went into labor. I rooted a cutting from it more than a year ago. Then I had to move the majority of my house plants and terrariums to a friend's house, where I in turn neglected them. My friend offered to water them, but I refused because I wanted the terrariums watered "right", which of course rarely happened because I didn't do it. Long story short, there were few survivors, one of which was this African Violet I grew from a cutting. After several months of recovering from my neglect, these are the first blooms for this plant. The color is actually deep purple, not blue. Thanks for looking!

Awesome! I tried a couple times to root some cuttings - one started growing, but later just croaked.

Thanks, WhiteRabbit. I've had some croak as well. Aside from not dying, I think one thing that was holding this one back was the two plantlets ("suckers") that were growing at the base. It seems like within a month of me cutting those suckers off it started putting out buds.

AV's are such pretty little things. Love the colour on this one, Gage
I've got a pink one currently in bloom.
