What's growing under my deck - Orchid Board

I noticed a little nest under my deck several weeks ago but didn't think much of it because I thought it was an old empty nest. Guess not....

I think these are Robins but I'm not sure. Don't know much about birds.

This is mama bird. She seems to have no fear of me and my dogs. We go on and around the deck often.

That's awesome! Those babies are so precious and it looks like another will be hatching soon. My guess would be a Robin because of the blue egg, but I really don't know.

Yes, a robin! And it's also typical for them to lay 4 eggs. Once, when living in Virginia, we hand reared a tiny little baby American robin that had fallen out of the nest. Eventually she was rehabilitated by a wildlife center and released into the wild.

They are not a bit afraid of us. I have them within 6 feet of me much of the time when working in the garden.

Does the mama have a brown belly? The robins around my house have a brown belly. It is hard for me to tell if that is a robin like the ones we have. She seems a bit bigger than the ones we have but maybe it just looks like that. Cool though!

We once had a hummingbird nest in a tree in our yard. It was right at eye level and had a little leaf over the nest like an umbrella. The eggs where blue too and were the size of my pinky finger nail. We got to watch them grow up and fly away. At first the mom would fly at us to scare us away. That is how we found the nest in the first place. Then she started leaving the nest and watching from a nearby tree when we came around the nest. She finally got so used to us she didn't even move when we came to look. It was really neat to watch and the nest was so tiny!

Yes, she has a brown belly. I got a good look at her. Definitely a Robin. She and papa bird tried flying at me to scare me away. Unfortunately, I can not avoid that area because most of my orchids are right there. I hope they don't get scared and abandon their babies.

Looks like they hatched not long ago! I wonder if that other one will hatch. I don't think they will leave their babies. I hope not anyway!

What a neat story!! I've seen tons of hummingbirds while living in the US, but never a nest. It must be so unbelievably small!
When I was in the US for 6 months back in 2010, there was a bush in front of the kitchen window and from the kitchen we had a good view of the insides of the bush. A pair of mourning doves set up house in there, didn't care that we were behind the window and we got to see them raise their 2 babies. It was a good reason to do the dishes, lol.

We grew up with horses and we found many nests around our house made out of our horses hair. One nest we found was really special because it was made out of our horse named Molly's hair and we found it a few months after Molly past away. We kept that one since it was empty. I don't know what happened to it though. My mom might still have it tucked away somewhere.
