Eucomis (Pineapple Lily)
Default Eucomis (Pineapple Lily)

I bought one Eucomis Bicolor bulb (Dutch) from NY Botanical Garden back in March. I planted it in rather a small pot the first week of April and placed at my sunny window.
It grew fast and I am now enjoying the bloom.

It was quite something to see what appeared to look like a small green torch emerging from the center of the leaves.

According to the name and the picture of this 'product', it should have dark purple spots on the stem and dark purple lining along the edges of the flowers.

Mine is actually Eucomis Bicolor var. Alba. I still like it as white/green is one of my favorite color combination.

I purchased one more just last week from the same sourse and planted in my community garden.
I wonder if it will be the real deal this time or the alba form again, both of which I will enjoy.

By the way, while surfing the net, I found there's this gorgeous lavendar colored pineapple lily! I gotta find that one now. woo hoo~~

The first picture is mine. the second one is the non alba form.

These are South African plants, although I think the one I have is a horticultural hybrid.
Very easy to grow and take care of. Stays in flower for summer through early fall, great for bulbs!

Try and you'll love them!

They do well in pot culture given full sun.

Cool plant! Not one I recall seeing before. There are many beautiful bulbs from S Africa, I'm told they can be as addictive as orchids...

BTW, if (as you seem to indicate) any one of the pictures isn't yours, please post a link to where you found it rather than the picture itself. Posting the picture without attribution of ownership may be a violation of the owner's copyright.
