I ordered a Nepenthes sanguinea and the grower said that the plants have a leafspan of 1 to 1 1/2 inches my questions are:
1. How old do you think this plant is if it was seed grown?
2. How long will it take to get: A 6 inch leafspan? A 12 inch leafspan? Fully mature?
I am in zone 5. Summer temperatures are in the mid to upper 80s and lower 90s during the day. At night the temperatures are in the lower 80s and upper 70s. The humidity is almost always above 70%.
3. Can I put this plant outside during the summer or would it be best to grow it indoors year round under my T5 lights to avoid shock when I put it out and bring it in?
Under my T5 lights the day temps are in the low 80s and night temps around 65F or so.
The plant is probably a year old, give or take a few months depending on how vigorous it is. My N. naga is a little over a year old and maybe an inch wide.
Give it a year or two to fully mature. N. sanguinaea is a fast one.
The one at the non-profit I volunteer for survives temps towards the 90s. It's a durable plant. I'd keep it inside to avoid setting back via shock.
Thanks for the info. I recieved it about a week or two ago and the leafspan is more like 3 or 4 inches. The biggest pitcher on it is about 1 to 1.5 inches long. It is currently making a new pitcher.
