We've been having a problem with these Iguana brazen big boys. Also Nile Monitor Lizards. This could eat my cat.

Sue, these things have gone crazy on Bocca Grand....and we are seeing more of them in my area.........the biggest threat right now are Nile Monitors, here where I live, on Sanibel Island and in the Cape. Non natives that are wrecking the ecosystem. No competition with your pretty blue tailed boy...just a little info on critters around me.

You're on Sanibel?!?!?!?

How beautiful! We went to Captiva a few years ago
and the view we got coming over the causeway into Sanibel was (and is) unforgettable!

What a shame...people releasing non-native animals into the environment

When you said you had a lot of lizards there, I assumed (and we all know what happens when you assume, right?) that you meant the little guys so common all over Florida, not the exotic creature you posted a pic of!

That is one large iguana. Even though it may not be native, it is one aspect that will have to be appreciated especially living in an ideal iguana climate, warm year round. There is never anything interesting like that living where I live

Wow--yeah, there's nothing like that on my lanai!!

We're in Naples, and haven't seen anything like that yet, but I heard there are problems with them up on Sanibel and Cape Coral.

As an aside, I was married on Captiva Island at South Seas Plantation.

In their native environs, the Iguanas are sometimes referred to as 'The Chickens of The Trees'. They are a major source of food in some areas. So much so, that breeding programs have been established to reduce the pressure on the wild populations.

Let us know how they taste! Probably better for you than chicken anyway. Less antibiotics. Cook it good though, as they can harbor a lot of Salmonella (mostly in the digestive tract).

This bad boy is not on my lanai or there would be a for sale sign in front of my house! It is out and about tho. I see a lot of very large Nile Monitors that have been hit by cars on the sides of the roads. There are a lot of them on the golf courses basking on the banks of lakes.

Sue, Sanibel's brand spanking new bridge officialy opened yesterday. The view still takes my breath away! Glad you got to visit.

khill, were you married before hurricane Charley? South Seas is coming back strong after the hit. Beautiful place. I was married on Sanibel at Casa Ybel Resort..small world.
