"Order in the Universe as opposed to Chaos"
That would be nice but it is flat wrong. The Second Law of Thermodynamics is tough to understand, but it's extremely important in the real world.
In short and simple it says that over time the entropy of a closed system(earth for example) increases. What that means is that it becomes more chaotic, less ordered unless work is applied to reorder the system. A simple example is that all the water runs downhill on its own and something has to pump it back up hill either with a pump or by heating it to make water vapor which rises and it rains on top of the hill.
That seems to occur on its own but the sun is using up its hydrogen to make that energy. The sun dims or pulls the earth into its fire depending on whether the sun runs out of hydrogen first or the earth expends all its potential energy gained from the big bang and can no longer stay in orbit. Either way the Second Law wins and the earth ends.
The Second Law is a law, not a lame notion. So will the earth end in 2012....probably not....but it will end and it won't be a calm scientifically controlled event as the poster suggests. It won't be calm, fun, religiously advantageous to some, or without fear or pain. I'll probably be gone by then but what if it happens unexpectedly on Dec 31, 2012? Maybe the Mayans knew something.
The best thing to do is send all your money to me now and I'll try to find an out for us. Send now, don't delay.
