Default Other things I grow

As I have said in previous posts, I used to specialize in cacti, especially tropical spp. This one has been one of my special "folk" in that it refused to secumb to the mites as many others did. This guy has not only been the stalwart of my old collection, but when I purchased it from B&B Cactus Farm in Tucson in the late 1980's was the size of one of the little pups you see around the base! This year the pups are blooming along with Mom.

Oh, yeah, this is Parodia mairanana

The pup to the left has at least one bud forming! These guys are full sun only. When just bright light is used, they won't bloom. I moved this into full sun outside an hour before the shot to get the flower out.

Nice, Ross! Cacti flowers are really impressive. The first time I saw one, I thought it was a fake flower someone had stuck on the plant! LOL!

Nice pink pot,too!

Very cool Ross
Those flowers always looked fake to me when I have seen them on cactii.
They look like they are made of paper.

Sorry for the pot. It started out maroon, but faded over the years. Yes, these guys go years without transplanting. That's what I liked about 'em. But they are susceptable to spider mites big time because they are kept pretty much dry.
