to protect their orchid investment, that is Thought about posting under Orchid Lounge, but on the safe side opted for here.

Just had my electrical service updated/upgraded to 200 amp from 100 amp and that meant shutting off all house power for most of the day. Now in the past it meant not being on the web during this period, which is bad enough. But now I have a tank with 27 'chids and no way to keep fans running and misters running, etc. So I went and bought a 3500 watt generator which, ultimately, I will have wired into home system so this problem doesn't occur in future. It would be bad enough to lose power in winter and not have heat in house, but to not be able to take care of the 'chids? That's really bad

After Hurricane Wilma most Floridians have generators. I have a elderly friend who is unable to move a generator so I helped him install a natural gas stand by generator from home depot about $3,500.00 complete. It automatically turns on when the power is out for more the 1 min. It runs everything including central air. Real nice, I unfortunately don't have natural gas in my area.

Hate the thought of loosing my chids especially in the heat of the summer. Hope all went well for you in the end Ross. You must have been pacing back and forth all day. Like waiting for a pot of water to boil

Dave, that's so great that you were able to help this elderly friend. So many came together during the past years after the nasty devastation of hurricanes. Natural gas would be the way to go, not a cute site with multiple gas cans and having to fill the cyclinder 3 x's a day.

Admit it Ross... you got the generator because you wanted to be the only one with a gas powered humidor

What I will admit is that one of the 3 things that required power all day was the humidor! Then the orchids and orchid fans, then the refrig - in that order
