So, its April now and I guess we are beginning middle spring??

Went to the woods this Saturday and found these.

The first is Marsh Marigold
Caltha palustris

then
Symplocarpus foetidus, skunk cabbage. THis was in full bloom everywhere, but I know that it blooms in Nov-February, so maybe these were no longer carrying blooms, rather they carried fruit.

Erythronium americana, Trout lily. I was surprised to see some flowers already, but they should colour the landscape gold in a few days.

4th picture shows Caltha palustris and E. americana and some skunk cabbage, all growing together.

This picture

shows the invasive False Marsh Marigold aka Lesser Celendine, in full bloom everywhere. Ranunculus ficaria

I haven't got any photos, but we've still got some azaleas left on the bushes outside, and the jasmine, honeysuckle, and orange blossoms are all over the place. It smells glorious outside!

The dogwood and tababuia trees just dropped the last of their flowers.

Oo, jasmine and honeysuckle are two of my favourites! I have a few big clumps of honeysuckle around the garden and there are quite a few around the Island as well - all makes for lovely summer walks

I can't see Tindo's pics either. Looks like they got lost somewhere.

Hi guys, for some reason neither photobucket nor orchidboard wanted to upload my pics. I actually had to upload each pic one by one on orchid board, and the last pic I was forced to use photobucket.
Enjoy.

Thanks I've never heard of Symplocarpus foetidus (skunk cabbage) before, interesting! All this is making me want to take a trip to the woods... alas, work is not letting me have too much time to myself at the moment - maybe I should make more of an effort to 'break free' for half a day!

So what is this now, late early spring??????

Today I will show you some pics I have gathered from the last week and a half.

Norway maple tree. Acer platenoides, a favourite haunt of the House finch during its flowering season.

More cherries ofcourse

Magnolias are in full bloom everywhere, this year no sudden freeze or snowfall has come to kill off the flowers.

Tulips are out

No clue what this is, but its out

The common dandelion, Taraxacum officinale, just started blooming all over the place here in NYC.

Previously I showed purple dead nettle (Lamium purpurea). This is it's cousin, Lamium amplexicaule, henbit.

Viola sororia, the confederate form, sometimes referred to as Viola priceana.

Viola sororia, the septentrionalis form.
