So, its April now and I guess we are beginning middle spring??
Went to the woods this Saturday and found these. The first is Marsh Marigold Caltha palustris then Symplocarpus foetidus, skunk cabbage. THis was in full bloom everywhere, but I know that it blooms in Nov-February, so maybe these were no longer carrying blooms, rather they carried fruit. Erythronium americana, Trout lily. I was surprised to see some flowers already, but they should colour the landscape gold in a few days. 4th picture shows Caltha palustris and E. americana and some skunk cabbage, all growing together. I haven't got any photos, but we've still got some azaleas left on the bushes outside, and the jasmine, honeysuckle, and orange blossoms are all over the place. It smells glorious outside! :)
The dogwood and tababuia trees just dropped the last of their flowers. |

Thanks :) I've never heard of Symplocarpus foetidus (skunk cabbage) before, interesting! All this is making me want to take a trip to the woods... alas, work is not letting me have too much time to myself at the moment - maybe I should make more of an effort to 'break free' for half a day!
