Hi All As requested, here are some pics of the Hepatica (there is a third one over towards the left, but it's only got one bud at the moment) and the Corydalis in situ. Like I said, it looks a bit sparse under there at the moment but it's good soil so I'm hoping it'll look quite nice in a few years with some more bulbs added.

Also, Rosie, it sounds like something I've got in the garden (also a picture attached). That has the same growth colours you mentioned and the same the type of flowers. It's been there ages and, like you, I can't remember what was on the label... though it'll probably be under the plant somewhere!!

Unfortunately they were cut down last fall, leaving the plants in full sun.
Thanks for that Camille, I didn't know there was a European species.

Rosie, that last pic of yours looks like a Pieris to me, maybe some sort of cultivar that has upright flower stems. Either way, its a gorgeous member of the blueberry family!

I think you are exactly right. Now you say it I remember the japonica bit because I thought of the orchids with that name as I bought it.

Last year the flowers were more pendent, like in pictures I've just looked up of Pieris japonica. Not sure what's going on this year

Yeah, looks the same (yours is much bigger, mine's a very young plant).

Yours is definately a Pieris of some sort as well then. As I've just said I'm certain mine is the Pieris japonica.

OK Guys, here is a doozy!! I went to the New York Botanical Gardens to see what they had in bloom outdoors. Well, they had a lot. Hence forth, I shall never think of March as a flowerless month.
Viburnum x bodnantense

Stachyurus sp.

Scilla mischtschenkpana

Rhododenron sp. or hybrids

Prunus mume

Primula woronowii

Potentilla alba

Populus tremuloides

Willow tree

NOID Spring flowering tree

Another

Cornus mas

Narcissus sp.

Narcissus asturiensis

Narcissus cyclamineus

Mahonia japonica

Lysichiton camtshatensis -- I don't know why I couldn't get a proper photo of this one

Jasminum nudiflorum

Iris reticulata and some hybrids/cultivars

this one is called Frank Elder

Helleborushybrids. They had thousands of these in bloom all over

Hamamelis x intermedia

Hamamelis vernalis

Hamamelis hyrbid

Erica x darleyensis

Erica carnea, man this one smelled good!

Edgeworthia chrysantha

No clue what this is, but it was everywhere!

Scilla of some kind??

Maybe a grape hyacinth?

Draba rigida

Cyclamen

Corylopsis spicata

Corylopsis pauciflora

Chionodoxa sardensis

Camelia japonica

Adonis amurensis

Wow, Tindo, that's just an explosion of color!! Isn't the Viburnum x bodnantense blooming a bit late? Ours always bloom in December-January.

I meant to post these pics earlier, but didn't have time to upload from the camera.

Sunday was such a gorgeous warm day that I went for a long walk which took me through a neighboring village where I saw beautiful cherry blossom trees. It doesn't even begin to compare to the show they put on in DC but it's still very nice to look at.

I also this cute plant carpeting the ground in a soggy ditch near the Anemones.
