Commelina communis: Asiatic Dayflower
As a child at my first home I rememeber playing with these plants. Those were only vague memories but over 15 years later, in my new home the same plant sprung up next to my orchids. It's a lovely plant. Although it is considered a noxious weed in many places, I doubt it can do harm here in the desert where it's dry. It's only growing because this place is shaded and sandy right under the porch with the orchids. The dainty little blooms have the most rich azure colour I've ever seen in a flower besides lobelia. The colour in the picture is dead on the colour it is in real life. Too bad orchids haven't gotten this colour yet. I hope some of the vandas can be developed with it.

Do you mind if I join this thread with the blooms of the 2011 growing season thread? This flower is everywhere here in NYC. But its still pretty.

Fantastic flowers, I've never seen an Anemone like this. You have a species?

It may be a hybrid, Tindo. I photographed it at the gardens of the Manito City Park in Spokane. We'll be there again in a couple weeks and I'll see if I can get more information.
