Asparagus Help/Recommendations
This is so completely off topic here...but I am needing some recommendations on what type of asparagus our members are growing. I would like to start a couple raised beds of asparagus and have been trying to read up on what the most delicious varieties are. I would like to try Larac, but I can't seem to find any crowns or seeds anywhere. I also read that UC 157 is good and I am able to find it but wanted to get some input from others before taking the plunge since I know it will be a few years before I can harvest it. I would also be interested to know if those who are growing asparagus started from seed or from crowns.
TIA!

Hi Becca, I'm sure if anyone here is growing asparagus they'll chime in soon - another avenue to explore might be the community over at folia. Someone might even just send you some seeds.
Here's Asparagus on the site, and here's swaps up for grabs; there's even a group dedicated to growing it!

I work in a Nursery which focuses on drought tolerant plants because we have major water problems in New Mexico. We use 'Martha Washington' in our nursery. It has a good flavor and is quite a tough variety (at least in our climate.)

Thank you for the recommendation Louis! I just saw an advertisement for a local nursery carrying Mary Washington for $1.00 per crown. $1.00 per crown doesn't seem like a bad price. I just want to make sure whatever I get is extra delicious!

Ah, Mary Washington. Thats it!
On a side note, I am currently living in a region of Spain which is covered with a native species of asparagus. I have found it but I haven't tried it yet. I hear its a much stronger flavor. Ill let you know!
good luck!
