In New York City, it has never gotten so bad that we cannot go to the corner store and stock up on food. We are spoiled and if we ever face a situation where we really can't go out or all the stores are closed we will be
1) shocked in disbelief, "Like, what do you mean the stores are closed?????"
then.....
2) we get angry, "Like, how dare they close the stores, don't they know I need food, Gaud!! its only 3 feet of snow....."
then we....
3) Pray, "O. M. G! What is God's phone number so I can text message him my prayer? Does he tweet? Facebook, anything!?!?!?!???"
In summary, we are spoiled brats here in NYC.
Oscarman and Marty are probably in an area where kids learn to ski before they walk. How do you guys manage?

Some places where there are desserts no water, other places lots of water and floods , and at the same time here in Sri Lanka we experience no or less water season , dry and hot weather.
As a geography learnt person what I understand is this is characteristics of the wonderful lonely earth planet we live.
Hope the weather will be lovely for you all!

Tindo,
I have never seem a time when we could not get somewhere because of the snow. The snow removal crews (despite everyone's complaints) do a fantastic job keeping the road drivable.....notice I didn't say clear!
We're lucky, our snow is dry as apposed to the heavy wet snow the get closer to the east coast. Sometimes it's like fluff, you can clear with a leaf blower!

We got some of that fluff this year. In fact one of our big storms this year was all fluff. It was cool!

It's been two weeks since our last storm dumped 16" on top of what was already there. It's been warm for the last couple of days and a lot of melting has occurred but so much is still left! The piles at road corners are still too high to see over, the roads are narrowed. Spring can't come soon enough.

Dave and I live in the same area, and in the last month we've been on a temp. roller coaster (from +5C to -18C for daytime highs and back) which means a lot of melting and refreezing. For the orchids it meant a lot of nice, clean, pure water. That's one of the bright sides of our winter.

snow?! what's that! er um HI! okay - so I have never lived in a place that it snows - likely a good thing cause i don't like the cold a whole lot. Though I did get dragged to boston in sub-freezing wind chill one year. didn't know my head could freeze like that. thx - you can keep the snow

I've been melting snow to water my plants, too. My husband put stockings loaded with salt on the edge of the roof to prevent ice dams, so I can't use the drippings. I dig out into the middle of the yard and scoop it up. So far, so good.
