So glad you have at least a temporary warm up. My avatar is my kids a few days ago after we got our first snow. The second on is happening now.

Hubby is watching the weather channel and I see you guys "across the pond" have been hit with new snow cover with more on the way. Hope you are all holding up ok. We have about a half inch of ice with a whole day of either ice or snow to come. Upper states along Canada border are dealing with -1 actual temp and a wind chill of -23.

Ouch we have frost free days but the pavements are melting and turning to glass. Here on the Eastcoast, the wind is slight, and last night we went to bed listening to the snow falling off the roof!! I have taken advantage of the warm days to bring in from the greenhouse the cymbidiums and the smallest of my cacti and succulents, they are now in unheated areas of the house. Nothing seems to have frozen so hopefully this gentle warmth won't hurt.

good news on the orchid front - my Colmanara Masai Red is in full bloom and my Maudiae type Paph has another spike forming - the previous bloom is still going well after a three month stint.

I can't photograph the Masai Red because the flowers are so dark and the light so low - I'm going to ask for tips on the Photography part of the board!

I hope you are all managing to keep warm and that the only red nose you see this month is Rudolph's

Thanks, Buddy! We are used to this every winter, so manage ok. We are looking at lows below zero and highs in the single digits the first part of the week. It will get worse before it gets any better. Glad to hear that you chids are doing ok in this though. Stay warm!

Funny, RJ. Well, about 8-10 inches of snow and a 4 hour power outage later, we are still surviving!! Tonight we will have a low around 2 with windchills of -35. Here comes the cold for the next week. How fair the rest of you?

It is really odd here, the thermometer has been above freezing point but the ice on our side roads remains and is very difficult to traverse, especially on foot. Plus the end of the week is set to bring wind straight from the Arctic with more snow to fall on the ice.......

On the good side we went to buy our Christmas tree today, and got a beauty, if I say so myself.

The dog is not happy on ice, and the local greyhound rescue are recommending not to walk greyhounds for fear of them breaking a leg. As a whippet is a small greyhound I now feel guilty about having taken her out, but she needs exercise or she gets grumpy.

As for RJ's comment "cold front = is when you open the fridge in yer boxer shorts" - well, I always have a nice thick dressing gown, so that doesn't happen.

The new freezer is actually warmer than you are, Jonada. How do you cope? Do the kids have to go to school in that sort of weather or do you live in a town/community big enough to have a school so that they don't have to travel too far?
