ALLERGIES!!!!!! Female
Default ALLERGIES!!!!!!

I HATE THEM. THEY'RE EVIL.

This is the time of year where we have a lot of terrestrial potted plants overwintering inside. And one of the main areas is a baker's rack in my room.
With the soil, comes the mold that lives in it- which sets off my allergies. Of COURSE the Allergist tells me to get rid of all the plants, but that's not going to happen.

Not to mention how awfully dry our houses get in CO during the winter with the heat going, so my sinuses dry up and start waging war against my quality of life.

So I'm stuck with using a saline solution with a little Alkalol in a Neti-pot every night. And the occasional Benadryl. And a humidifier running at night next to my bed.

What do you guys do to survive winter allergies?

I used to take the antihistamine every day and then the rhinitis settles down.

I used to sneeze a lot, but I don't anymore. Mind you I walk the dog everyday whatever the weather so maybe I've acclimatised to all things fungal

Take at least one winter vacation to a sunny, warm place- not an option for everybody but it is so amazing to rest your sinuses in the rain forest.

Allerigies suck. Not allergic to plants luckily, but think I'm starting an allergy to my guinea pig.... And already majorily allergic to dustmites so I battle allergy symptoms year round.

If you mean that the plants are in your bedroom, you really really should get them out of them and into a different room. That is the number 1 place to avoid having allergens. My Doc says that even if you can't (won't) give up the source of the allergy (like my piggy), you got to keep it out of the bedroom since that's where you spend a large part of your time. And it wrecks your sleep, which then wrecks your life.

I am so pleased to know you like guinea pigs, Camille. We have two called Scoundrel and Gizzy (don't ask) - but they live outdoors.

Mine's Snoopy, and he's probably going to go to the vet soon to get neutered so that he can have some female companionship. I should have called him Shadow, he follows me around absolutely everywhere around the house. Super cuddly too. And spoiled rotten!

Not long ago I had a woman contact me to see if semi-hydroponics would help her husband, who had asthma and suffered greatly when around her plants.

Her assumption was that molds and fungi growing in the "soil" were the culprits. She bought a ton of supplies, and converted over her whole collection.

She came to the Susquehanna show specifically to tell me how much better he was!
