did you ever think that you should tear a chunk off the main part and break it up and kind of work it into the area where you found it to propagate more for the future ...after all it is a fruiting body you stopped from finishing its work ......and they do also grow from bits broken off and placed in a good spot....
Oh by the way WOW that is a monster good find.
I would try putting a bit in the blender though and with a bit of water blend it a bit and take it and spray or sprinkle the reslutin spawn around where I had found it to see if I got more there next season.

Actually, this type will come back year after year in the same spot. We found several last year around the same stumps as this year. I do get what you are saying, though.

Cool the stumps are from what kind of tree? It may be worth innoculating new stumps in other places

We fried this one in butter with onions and had it with marinated venison steaks. We have also added it to our home made spaghetti sauce. It holds its flavor very well when mixed with other foods.
