Izzie, something you could try to fix it is to update the BIOS. I had a similar problem with my Dell laptop last year, and spent ages on the phone with someone at Dell who helped me take apart the laptop and check various things, then as a last resort she suggested that I go to their website (plugged the laptop into a different screen) and download the most recent BIOS for my model. And bingo, laptop screen worked once more!
HP must surely have something similar on their website. Even if that doesn't fix it, sure can't hurt to try (unless you flash the wrong BOIS and permanently wreck the motherboard). I've never buying anything other than a Dell, their customer support (at least in france) is awesome. |
It's funny that you mention that, because my computer always acted funny when I tried to update the BIOS, like it got all the way to the end, and then nothing happened or whatever....
Anyways, $200 poorer. $100 of worthless labor, and $100 of useless new parts that are so specific to this model that I am really not looking forward to trying to sell them on ebay again. :D Anybody want a screen, inverter board, or cables? John- he had tried the switch thing, turns out. He completely unwired it and such and nothing changed. Sooooo, I will be hooking it up to the monitor of our new desktop until Christmas, when hopefully I will have been given some laptop money. And I'm going to get an Asus. |
Ok ...Not trying to be a Know it all but in the case of a lid swith "unwireing" it is the revers of what would work It would be what is called a normaly closed swith and when the lid shuts it "OPENS" the circuit so the only way to check that is to use a jumper wire soldered across the connector on the Motherboard to keep it "CLOSED"...but you KNow the guy and if you trust him and his work he probably did that.
I dont know if it just me being wore out his week my keyboard or I need new glasses but darn I lost a bunch of the alphabet in this one |
I don't trust him anymore. But I don't have the money to go someplace else and pay for another diagnostic and another repair. :(
I really appreciate your help though, John. If I knew I could take it to someone and have them do what you suggest without paying inordinant amounts of money, I would. |
sorry to hear that
