If I was where I could examine the main board I would locate the lid switch and then I would solder a pair of small wire leads to it and connect them so that it would be on permanantly ...then if that was not it I cant say what it would be but it sounds like it would be worth a try

John, you are the first person I'm going to call on when I have my next computer problem.
I've given up on laptops and gone back to a desktop. I never took the laptop anywhere anyway. I do have a netbook.
I truly hate computers, but they're so d... useful! ![whip](http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/whip.gif)

Laptops have a very limited life expectancy due to the ultra small components and heat build up in general ..then you have the knocks and bumps....
And power supply issues are becoming horrible with then too ...I bought one a couple years ago Gave the piece of crap away ....LOL I have a 100 watt inverter in the truck and lol I can hook my desktop up in it if I truly need portability ....
net books are way too small for my old eyes to read the darned screens on them

I would love to just get a desktop, since they're so much easier to fix since their parts aren't so specific, and have more power, etc. But being a student, it's really nice (almost essential) that I am able to bring my computer with me to campus in order to work on things for the several hours I have between classes.

and remember this too Izzie some states dont allow what is called a LIMITED warranty its all or nothing in those states so dont let them try and say it is not covered due to limitation of a limited warranty if ....
I wonder why they dont have to do recalls on anything that is proven to have been defective from the start?

It's not under warranty anymore, it expired this february. So I don't know that anything, even what RJ mentioned, would be covered.
