Hewlett-Packard lists 24 laptop model variations affected by a widely reported Nvidia graphics chip defect. HP said the flaw has been a warranty issue since November of last year..

"HP became aware of this issue when we began performing an investigation based on field performance data," the spokesperson said.

Pavilion dv2000, dv6000, and dv9000 and Compaq Presario V3000 and V6000 series are listed by HP as being potentially affected. Symptoms include no video on the computer LCD screen, no power and no active LEDs, and "the notebook does not start," according to HP's Web page that cites the problem.

"If you are experiencing one or more symptoms listed , and your computer meets the product criteria listed , contact HP to determine whether you are eligible for a free repair,"

I'm Chinese btw, so I get to say stuff like this and not have anybody say a damn thing! :)

were you born in China?

give me a model number and I will look up the schematic and switch positions if I can find em ....since it is actually working with a external monitor it does sound like it could be the switch that turns off the screen when the lid is closed

Nope.

Never set foot on the country once.

Full Chinese. Born in Indonesia. Raised in America. Been in the US since I was 3.

So technically I'm Chinese-Indonesian-American. But I say I'm Chinese for short. :)

Noticed how Chinese goods tend to break easily.

Another thing I've noticed is that some products are just kinda half assed. Particularly those annoyingly simple and at times inaccurate instruction booklets for appliances that sometimes don't make sense.

My father jokes around about some of the stuff from there is like a toy.

A few things are good though. But I just expect most of their stuff to be somewhat junky, so if it turns out to be good, I'm happy. :)

LOL ok

I won't have the product number off the actual machine until the guy brings it back this evening.

According to the numbers on the receipt, this is the machine:
HP Pavilion dv4-1275mx Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) DV4-1275MX

RJ- thanks! That's good to know.

I would definatly go with Rj on checking that line .

I am having no luck finding the schematic or even a dissembly manual on this one so far and it can be a real pita to find theses hp is not very good at supplying such info

After looking again, I'm not entirely sure that the receipt model number is right.

We found a manual that showed him how to take it apart, I just dont' have a link to it. I'll get the real model # to you asap.

Do you know how that switch would be fixed? What it would look like if it were broken?

johnblagg 09-30-2010 03:45 PM

I found it LOL here is the link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/su.../c00530488.pdf

and there is indeed a lid switch described in the flow chart to trouble shoot no video and it says to depress lid switch to ensure it is working .....

I have not found a picture of where it is but it should not be that hard to locate on the motherboard

In the manual under flowchart 2.6 part 1 is the place top look
